Could Robert Downey Jr. Be Playing Doctor Doom and Also Return as Tony Stark in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY?

We know that the next two Avengers film are going to bring back together a several characters from the Infinity Saga to face off with Doctor Doom.

It was recently confirmed that Chris Evans will return, and I believe he’ll be playing Steve Rogers. It was previously reported that he’ll be joined by several other original MCU characters that could include Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Doctor Strange, and more.

So, I got to thinking, yeah, that’s a surprise, I know, but… if all these characters are going to return, it seems like it would be possible for Tony Stark to return as well and suit up again as Iron Man.

Now, Robert Downey Jr. has already been cast as Victor Von Doom, but this is going to be a completely different character, and not an evil variant of Stark. Also, I’ve heard that the character will be unrecognizable to all of the other characters.

If this is the case, it would be a huge surprise if all of a sudden Downey Jr. also showed up as Tony Stark to help in the battle against Doctor Doom.

This is pure speculation on my part, but as we’ve learned from Marvel in the past, anything is possible, and if all of the Avengers are going to reunite to fight Doom, the team wouldn’t be complete without Iron Man.

I think the audiences would go crazy over that, and with Downey Jr. already officially signed on to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it could happen!

Do you have any theories on how things might play out over the next two Avengers films?

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026. The Russos have Avengers: Secret Wars happening in May 2027.
