Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers Gets 22 Minutes in SCREAM 7, but It’s Her Biggest Role Since SCREAM 3
Scream 7 is bringing back Courteney Cox to once again tak on the role of Gale Weathers, but if you’re hoping for a ton of screen time, you might want to The good news is that while her role may be smaller than expected, it’s still the most we’ve seen of Gale in the franchise in over two decades.
According to an unofficial Scream news account on X, Cox clocks in at just 22 minutes of screen time in Scream 7. Of course, that number hasn’t been confirmed by Paramount, so take it as rumor for now.
Still, if you’ve watched the trailer, it seems to track. Gale only appears briefly in the footage, pulling up in her news van and meeting up with Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott after the latest Ghostface killings have already kicked off.
Even with limited screen time, it looks like Gale finally gets something she’s been chasing for 30 years. In a leaked clip circulating online, Weathers is seen sitting across from Prescott on a talk show set, conducting a one-on-one interview.
After decades of reporting on Sidney’s trauma, writing books, and building her media career, she’s finally face-to-face with the woman who made her famous in a very different setting.
If that 22-minute figure holds true, it might sound short. But here’s the surprising part: it’s reportedly the most Gale has been featured since Scream 3 back in 2000.
After her Hollywood success, move to the city, and eventual split from Dewey, the franchise has gradually scaled back her presence. In Scream (2022) and Scream VI, Gale popped in for only a handful of scenes. So while she may not be front and center this time, this is technically her biggest role in years.
That’s largely because Scream 7 is shifting its focus squarely back to Sidney Prescott. Director Kevin Williamson confirmed, "It's continuing the legacy of Sidney Prescott. It's about her daughter. It's about family."
This sequel finds Sidney living away from Woodsboro, trying to build a peaceful life. But Ghostface isn’t done with her. The killer resurfaces, targeting Sidney and her daughter, played by Isabel May, pulling the Prescott family back into the nightmare once again.
The film also brings back Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, alongside some surprising returns. Matthew Lillard is back as Stu Macher, Scott Foley as Roman Bridger, and David Arquette returns as Dewey, despite the characters seemingly meeting their ends earlier in the series. In true Scream fashion, nothing is ever completely off the table.
So while Gale Weathers may not dominate Scream 7, her presence still matters. And if the rumors are accurate, fans will actually be spending more time with her than they have since the early 2000s. For longtime followers of the franchise, that alone makes her return worth getting excited about.
Scream 7 slashes its way into theaters on February 27.
