CRITICAL ROLE Launches New Monthly Horror TTRPG Series CANDELA OBSCURA This Month
A couple of weeks ago, Critical Role’s Darrington Press announced a few new games they are releasing including their very own tabletop roleplaying game system (TTRPG) called Illuminated Worlds. Now, Critical Role has announced an original horror TTRPG series called Candela Obscura which will utilize the Illuminated Worlds System. This new series will be an ongoing monthly horror drama following a group of investigators played by Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us: Part II), Robbie Daymond (Spider-Man), and Anjali Bhimani (Ms. Marvel). What’s more is that the first chapter will see Critical Role’s own Matthew Mercer (The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom) as the game master.
Candela Obscura is an ongoing monthly horror drama that follows an esoteric order of investigators as they use centuries of knowledge to fight back a mysterious source of corruption and bleed. At the beginning of each episode, an inciting incident occurs, prompting a team, or circle, of investigators to uncover and solve the mystery at hand and the series was designed so that viewers and listeners can pick up at any point.
This sounds very exciting and I cannot wait for the series to premiere on May 25. That’s right, you can watch the first chapter of Candela Obscura on May 25 at 7 PM PT via Critical Role’s Twitch channel and their YouTube channel. New episodes will air on the last Thursday of every month and the video on demand and podcast versions will be available to enjoy two weeks later. Candela Obscura was created by Taliesin Jaffe and Chris Lockey with lead designers and writers Spenser Starke and Rowan Hall, and Steve Failows and Maxwell James serving as producers.
