CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM's Richard Lewis Disliked Larry David "Intensely" When He First Met Him

Richard Lewis recently talked about his experience meeting Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David for the first time, and disliked him so much that he couldn’t get away from him! The two are lifelong friends now, but the first impression of David was not a good one!

Lewis recently did an interview with UK’s Spectator magazine revealing that the two friends were born three days apart in Brooklyn Jewish Hospital, and they first met when they were 12 years old at a summer camp. He explained:

“I disliked him intensely. He was cocky, he was arrogant. When we played baseball, I tried to hit him with the ball: we were arch-rivals. I couldn’t wait for the camp to be over just to get away from Larry. I’m sure he felt the same way.”

A decade later the two ended up reuniting on New York’s stand-up comedy scene, and it was during this time that they became close friends. When they first reconnected, they didn’t really recognize each other at first.

“I looked at his face and I said, ‘There’s something about you, man, that spooks me.’” David replied, “You’re Richard Lewis!” “You’re Larry David!”

What a wild experience it must’ve been when they realized where they had known each other. Lewis went on to talk about the upcoming twelfth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It was revealed earlier this year that Lewis had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, but he will be appearing in half of the episodes of the new season, and he’s confident that the new season is going to be great. He says:

“Larry never does the show unless he thinks it’s going to be better than the last. At least on paper, and with the guest stars and the cast, he has the best year ever. But he’ll be the judge because he edits it.”

Lewis got his big break in comedy when he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and then also ended up doing comedy slots on David Letterman. He retired from stand-up four months ago, but it seems like he’ll keep showing back up for Curb whenever David needs him and if he’s able.
