Daisy Ridley Says She Wasn't Getting Many Job Offers After Her STAR WARS Run
Daisy Ridley had an exciting run playing Rey in the Star Wars universe over the course of three years and she finished that run with 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Regardless of what you thought about that sequel trilogy, the films did make a lot of money and the popularity of the franchise was still strong. However, Ridley recently shared that when she was done, she wasn’t initially getting a lot of job offers.
While talking about her career stall at SXSW over the weekend, she said: “There weren’t that many offers coming in. It’s not that there wasn’t any… I remember finishing and thinking, ‘Oh, it’s quiet and strange.'”
I can only imagine there were a lot of questions going through her head maybe even some panic. She just got off one of the biggest and most exciting Hollywood gigs any actor could get, and then after eight years, it just stops and you're just waiting to see what happens next.
After that the pandemic hit and the entire film and TV industry shut down and zero offers were coming in. She said, “So it was a very strange time to sit with the quiet and, honestly, grieving a time of my life.”
But, the offers did eventually start coming in and work became steady for her. She went ont’t to say, “It’s been really busy and amazing and I’ve got to do so many different things for so many different people. It has been a different exploration of myself and my career.”
She is also coming back to the franchise that launched her career to reprise her role as Rey in future films, which she’s excited about. But, it turns out she wasn’t really comfortable playing her character in Star Wars until she got to the third movie. She said, “It took, honestly, making the third film till I felt like ‘OK, I’m good. I deserve to be here.’”
Ridley’s other upcoming film projects include Young Woman and the Sea, Women in the Castle, Cleaner, and We Bury the Dead.
