Daisy Ridley Will Reprise Her Role as Rey Skywalker in New STAR WARS Movie
A couple of months ago, Daisy Ridley gave an interview in which she said that she was open to returning to the Star Wars universe as Rey. Well, it turns out that she is now confirmed to be reprising that role in a new Star Wars movie!
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced the big news at Star Wars Celebration in London today. This is the Star Wars project that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) was previously attached to direct. Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson had written a script for it, but they ended up dropping out of the project after turning in his first draft, and now Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) is writing the film.
The film follows the events of Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order. I’m sure you all remember that Rey took on the name of Skywalker at the end of Rise of Skywalker.
This is a pretty big deal, but it’s not surprising. I think a lot of fans figured at some point some of the characters from the sequel trilogy would come back for more stories.
There are no other details to share, but maybe this movie will actually happen. Kennedy has announced several other Star Wars film projects in the past at Star Wars Celebration and then nothing ever happens with them. But, since this one is tied the sequel trilogy, and Ridley is on board to star, maybe this one actually has a shot of getting made.
What do you think about Rey’s story continuing in a new Star Wars movie? With Steven Knight writing the script, maybe there’s a chance that this will be good. We’ll have to wait and see.
