Daniel Kaluuya Circling Mind-Bending Horror HOTEL HOTEL HOTEL HOTEL That Feels Like a Twisted Cousin to 1408
Daniel Kaluuya has built a career on characters who unravel in fascinating ways. From Black Mirror to his Oscar-nominated turn in Get Out, he’s proven he knows how to tap into psychological chaos.
Now, he might be heading back into that territory with a new sci-fi thriller that sounds like it’ll seriously mess with our heads. According to Deadline, Kaluuya is in talks to star in Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel, the next project from Together director Michael Shanks.
The film follows a man who wakes up trapped in a mysterious hotel room. All alone in a mind-bending prison, his only chance for escape is teamwork — with himself. That concept puts it in the same unsettling neighborhood as 1408 and Buried, where isolation becomes the real monster.
But with Shanks at the helm and Kaluuya potentially carrying the entire thing, this could crank the tension into something even more psychologically warped.
Shanks wrote the script, which landed on the 2021 Black List, and he’ll also direct and produce. The project is set up at A24 as a negative pickup. Producers include Mike Cowap and Emma Fitzsimmons of Princess Pictures, along with Adam McKay and Todd Schulman of HyperObject Industries.
If you caught Shanks’ feature debut Together, you know he isn’t afraid to get strange. That darkly comedic body horror sold out of Sundance 2025 to Neon for $17 million and went on to pull in over $32 million worldwide.
Pairing that creative energy with Kaluuya’s intensity feels like a combo that could go from cerebral to completely unhinged.
Kaluuya is also working on Misty Green, the Chris Rock-directed drama starring Anna Kendrick and Adam Driver. On top of that, he’s developing his standalone Spider-Punk movie and continuing work on his long-gestating adults-only take on Barney the purple dinosaur.
