Danny McBride Has Ideas For a New HALLOWEEN Sequel and Confirms Talks are Underway
The new Halloween film from David Gordon Green and Danny McBride ended up being a big hit at the box office and with critics. So, it’s not surprising to learn that Blumhouse is looking to make another sequel.
Does the world need another sequel? Not really, but if they make, of course, I’ll watch it! Danny McBride explains that he has ideas for it and he’s confirmed that talks with the studio are currently underway. During an interview with Deadline, he said:
“We definitely have ideas of what we would do. [We] have thoughts and ideas of what we could possibly do. We hadn’t invested a ton of time on them, but now we’re being asked to figure it out. There are definitely talks on whether we will do more of them and we’re just trying to see what best makes sense.”
A couple weeks ago it was reported That Gordon Green and McBride might not be involved with the sequel, but after what McBride says here, that’s obviously not the case. They are going to be very much involved, and after seeing what they did with this most recent film, that makes me happy.
When McBride and Green originally pitched the film, they wanted to tell a two-part story and shoot the films back-to-back. So they must already have a solid plan for the next chapter of the story. McBride said:
"We were going to shoot two of them back-to-back…Then we were like, Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This could come out, and everyone could hate us, and we’d never work again. So, let’s not have to sit around for a year while we wait for another movie to come out that we know people aren’t going to like. So, we were like, Let’s learn from this, and see what works, and what doesn’t. But we definitely have an idea of where we would go [with] this branch of the story and hopefully we get a chance to do it."
It will be interesting to see where they take the story from where the recent film ended. Will Laurie Strode, her daughter and granddaughter have to go to war with Michael Myers again? Will Michael go after another group of characters?
Personally, I’d like to see them do something completely different. Something that has nothing to do with Michael Meyers. When John Carpenter first came up with the Halloween movie idea, it was an anthology film concept where each of the Halloween films would have been standalone stories set during the spooky Halloween season. The story of Michael Meyers was originally never supposed to keep going the way that it did.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch was Carpenter’s first and only attempt to try and get the anthology up and running. While most people don’t like that film, I loved it!
What would you like to see in a Halloween sequel?
