Danny McBride on His HALLOWEEN Sequel and Bringing Back The Dread of The Original Film

Danny McBride is deep into the development of the Halloween sequel that he's working on with David Gordon Green. Fans have seemed to really buy into the direction he's looking to take the sequel, and I'm actually pretty pumped up about it myself!

The Halloween franchise has been through a lot over the years. Some of the sequels that we've seen have been decent, but none of them have managed to live up to the standard that was set by John Carpenter's original film. While talking about the film, Mcbride explains his vision for how the story will play out and explains that he is looking to bring back the tension and dread that we all loved about the original. While talking to Charleston City Paper, he said:

"The original is all about tension. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) doesn't even know that Michael Myers exists until the last minutes of the movie. So much of it you're in anticipation of what's going to happen and the dread that [director John] Carpenter spins so effortlessly in that film, I think we were really trying to get it back to that. We're trying to mine that dread. Mine that tension and not just go for gore and ultra-violence that you see some horror movies lean on."

He went on to point out:

"To us, it was all about bringing back the creep factor and trying to find the horror in your own backyard, in our own homes."

I love this approach to the film and I really do hope that they can properly pull it off. The fact that this is what they are going for, gives me hope that this sequel will actually turn out to be good. Some of the scariest horror movies that I've seen don't involve blood or guts. Just and a great haunting story that uses tension and messing with peoples heads to scare the shit out of audiences.

The upcoming Halloween film takes place years after the original movie and will revolve around Laurie Strode and her daughter, who is being played by Judy Greer. The movie will pretend as if none of the other sequels have happened, and Michael Meyers will not be portrayed as a supernatural being. But, one thing we can all expect is to see him come back after his sister.

The Halloween sequel will be released in theaters on October 19, 2018.
