DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Director Teases Finale Is "Extraordinarily Shocking" and "Very, Very, Very Violent"
If your a fan of what Daredevil: Born Again has delivered so far, brace yourself because according to director Justin Benson, the finale isn’t pulling any punches. In fact, it sounds like it might knock the wind out of viewers entirely.
Benson told TVLine: "There is a moment in the finale that is extraordinarily shocking on a practical effects level, and is very, very, very violent – but also, as filmmakers, incredibly exciting.
"You’ll know what I’m talking about [when you see it], and I can’t wait for people to understand why there’s a gleam in my eye [right now]."
That’s a pretty exciting tease, especially after a season already loaded with tension, blood, and a welcome return to the brutal tone fans loved in the Netflix original. I can’t wait to see what exactly they’ve done!
Benson and directing partner Aaron Moorhead were brought in mid-production to help course-correct the series, and they came on board looking to make some big hard swings.
Back in October 2023, Marvel hit the reset button on Born Again scrapping much of the original footage, letting go of the previous creative team, and calling in The Punisher’s Dario Scardapane to take over as showrunner. The move, while unusual for a studio as tight-lipped as Marvel, turned out to be the right call.
Charlie Cox said: "One of the most amazing things about working for this company was their ability to look at what we were making, listen to the things [Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio] and I had to say about it and pivot; decide you know what, this isn’t quite the right direction and we know how we can change it and make it better," Cox shared with The Hollywood Reporter.
Benson and Moorhead already earned genre cred with Moon Knight, and now they’re carrying that same energy into Born Again’s home stretch. They’re also confirmed to return for Season 2, currently filming in New York.
