DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 2 Finale Pulled Off a Huge Defenders Cameo Thanks to Krysten Ritter

The finale of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 didn’t just wrap up Matt Murdock’s latest chapter, it dropped a surprise that Marvel fans have been waiting years to see. That unexpected Defenders connection? It almost didn’t happen at all until Krysten Ritter stepped in and made a call that changed everything.

If you’re caught up, you already know the moment. Mike Colter officially returns as Luke Cage, marking his first appearance in the MCU since popping up in Jessica Jones back in 2019. It’s a big deal because of what it hints at moving forward. Surprisingly, the idea for that cameo wasn’t locked in from the start.

Ritter shared how the whole thing came together, and it sounds like it was born from pure excitement on set.

"I was so excited," Ritter told Entertainment Weekly. "We were talking about it on set with Sana [Amanat, Marvel executive producer]. It was just like a whisper of an idea at the time, and I loved it so much that I was like, 'We have to do it and the scene should be like this and I'm gonna call Mike right now and tell him to do it.'"

That energy clearly paid off. What started as a loose concept quickly turned into one of the finale’s standout moments.

Ritter went on to explain that the sequence wasn’t always meant to play out the way we saw it. "Originally, the scene "was gonna be a slightly different shape.

"We didn't know if it would be Mike or not, but I was so excited because it sets up what's to come and gives us a little bit of a window into where their story could go.""

That last part is where things get really interesting. Luke Cage’s return is laying groundwork. The finale reveals that Luke has been off doing shadowy work overseas for Mr. Charles, tied to some kind of government operation.

Now he’s back in New York with Jessica and their daughter Danielle, but things aren’t exactly settled. Bullseye appears to have taken his place in certain circles, which could lead to some serious tension moving forward.

There’s also a strong tease that Jessica and Luke are ready to get back to their roots by reopening Alias Investigations. That opens the door for street-level stories that feel more personal, something fans of the original Netflix Marvel shows have been craving.

And if that wasn’t enough, early behind-the-scenes photos from Season 3 confirms Marvel is not be done bringing the Defenders back together.

All episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are now streaming on Disney+, and Season 3 is expected to hit in March 2027.
