DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 3 Set Photos Reveal First Look at Elodie Yung Back as Elektra in New Costume
Marvel fans have been waiting to see if Elektra would make her way back into the world of Daredevil: Born Again, and now it looks like that long-running rumor has officially been confirmed.
A newly surfaced set videos and a batch of photos from Season 3 offer our best look yet at Elodie Yung returning as the deadly assassin Elektra. Some of them even feature her with Daredevil.
While the actress had previously been spotted on set wrapped in a hooded cloak that concealed most of her appearance, these latest images leave little room for doubt. Elektra is back, and she's sporting a brand-new costume.
Yung, who first played the character in Netflix's Daredevil and The Defenders, is seen wearing an updated version of Elektra's signature look. It's a noticeable evolution from what fans saw during the Netflix era. The costume features much more red and embraces a more traditional superhero aesthetic than her previous outfit.
One particularly interesting change is the return of Elektra's bandana. In the Netflix series, she typically used it to cover her face. This time, she's wearing it around her head, giving the costume a distinctive comic-inspired touch.
The timing of Elektra's return raises some questions about where Season 3 is headed. With Matt Murdock currently behind bars, there's growing speculation that someone else may need to step in to protect Hell's Kitchen.
Charlie Cox previously hinted that another character could carry on the mission while the Man Without Fear is out of action, and Elektra certainly seems like a candidate for the job.
Could she actually take up the mantle of Daredevil? That possibility feels even more interesting when paired with another detail spotted in the set photos.
Fans noticed that the actor standing opposite Yung in one of the images appears to be the stunt double for Wilson Bethel's Bullseye. If that's the case, a long-awaited confrontation between Elektra and Bullseye could be in the works, and that would be a showdown a lot of fans would love to see.
The new photos also offer a glimpse of Vincent D'Onofrio back as Wilson Fisk. Despite stepping away from the spotlight following the events of the Season 2 finale, it seems the former Mayor of New York won't be staying on the sidelines for long. Kingpin appears ready to insert himself back into the chaos, which is exactly where he tends to thrive.
Not long before the Season 2 finale aired, Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane was asked about the possibility of bringing both Elektra and Colleen Wing into Season 3. While he avoided revealing any specific plans, his comments certainly suggested that these characters have been on the creative team's radar.
"The best way I could put this without giving too much away is that what we do when we’re in the writer’s room is we go and look at some of the iconic comic book runs.
“We look at a lot of the things that seem to make sense in the story that we’re moving forward, and then when the time comes to bring a character in or to add a storyline, we have our wish list.
“Everybody you have mentioned so far is on that wish list. There’s the stuff that I would love to do, there’s the stuff that they’re doing in the larger MCU and sometimes those align and sometimes they don’t.
The world that we’re doing with this show is very Frank Miller-esque, for lack of a better word. Chip [Zdarsky] and [Brian Michael] Bendis, those artists and writers, they have a very kind of particular tone and a particular sweet spot, and a lot of the characters that you’ve mentioned work in that sweet spot."
At this point, Marvel Studios hasn't officially revealed how large Elektra's role will be in Season 3, but the fact that she's back in costume is enough to get fans excited.
Between Fisk's return to the action, Matt Murdock's uncertain future, The Defender assembling again, and the possibility of a clash with Bullseye, the next chapter of Daredevil: Born Again is shaping up to be packed with familiar faces and plenty of street-level chaos.
