DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Showrunner Addresses Rumored Deaths and Michael Gandolfini’s Role

With Daredevil: Born Again hitting Disney+ in just over a month, showrunner Dario Scardapane is shedding some new light on the series’ creative overhaul, the return of familiar faces, and the rumors about major character deaths.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Scardapane talked about the importance of bringing back Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson for the series.

He said: “[They are] the heart and soul of this mythology. You get so much more out of Daredevil as a character, as a human being. Karen and Foggy are the family structure for our orphan Matt, and it was very important to have them.”

But don’t get too comfortable, there are set photos suggest that hint that at least one of them might not be around for long. While fan theories have been circulating that either Karen or Foggy (or both) could be killed off early in the season, Scardapane played coy.

He said: “All those rumors are true. None of them are true. I refer people to the comic books, where the fate of both those characters has happened many times in different ways.”

That’s not exactly reassuring. Given the darker tones of Daredevil’s past stories, it really wouldn’t be shocking if the show ended up killing off one of both of these characters, but I hope it doesn’t. After all, “Karen and Foggy are the family structure for our orphan Matt.”

There has also been speculation that Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) would be playing a young Wilson Fisk. But, it turns out, that’s not the case.

Scardapane revealed: “He is the Kingpin’s protégé who is pulled into a world he barely understands.”

Whether Gandolfini’s character is a known Marvel figure or an original addition remains to be seen. But with Vincent D'Onofrio’s Fisk at the center of the story, whoever Gandolfini is playing is bound to be in over his head.

In Marvel Television's Daredevil: Born Again, “Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.”

Daredevil: Born Again is set to debut on Disney+ on March 4th.
