DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Will Return To Frank Miller-Style Gritty Street-Level Action After Season 2

With Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 set to hit Disney+ next month, fans are gearing up for the next chapter in Marvel’s gritty corner of New York City. But according to showrunner Dario Scardapane, the series isn’t planning to stay wrapped up in political power plays for long.

After Season 2 brings Mayor Fisk’s reign to a close, the show will pivot toward something grittier, meaner, and much more street-level.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 continues the story launched on Netflix, with Charlie Cox returning as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio back in action as Wilson Fisk. This time, Fisk is sitting in City Hall.

The official synopsis reads: “In season 2, Mayor Wilson Fisk crushes New York City underfoot as he hunts down public enemy number one, the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante known as Daredevil.

“But beneath the horned mask, Matt Murdock will try to fight back from the shadows to tear down the Kingpin’s corrupt empire and redeem his home. Resist. Rebel. Rebuild.”

That premise leans hard into political tension, something that’s sparked conversation about how closely the show mirrors real-world events. In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Scardapane admitted he has “mixed feelings” about that aspect of the series.

“Stan Lee once said that he wanted to make his comic books a reflection of the world you saw outside your window,” he explained. “Then I also believe that what’s fun about the genre, and definitely fun in working with superheroes, is you’re dealing with huge archetypes, almost mythological characters, and that’s fun writing.

“Getting into the realm of politics, New York politics, the Game of Thrones intrigue behind the scenes… okay, that’s fun too, but as it becomes almost too topical it feels like it’s going away from the large, mythological genre stuff."

“So as we finish up the Mayor Fisk run with season 2, as that storyline comes to its inevitable conclusion, what we’re doing going forward feels more like a return to the [Frank] Miller-era comics. So yeah, it was fun to play in the realm of politics, but I like something a little more street level, personally.”

The mention of Frank Miller’s era signals a shift back toward the darker, more grounded tone that helped define Daredevil in the comics. Those stories focused less on city hall maneuvering and more on back-alley fights, crime families, moral conflict, and a hero who bleeds just as much as the criminals he takes down.

It also suggests that once Fisk’s mayoral storyline wraps up, we’ll see Matt Murdock operating in a more intimate battleground. Less political chess. More fists, rooftops, and Catholic guilt.

For a character like Daredevil, that’s home turf.

Marvel Studios will premiere Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on Disney+ on March 24, 2026. If Scardapane follows through on this vision, the next phase of the series could feel raw, personal, and stripped back to what made the character so compelling in the first place.
