Seth Rogen-Produced DARKWING DUCK Reboot Still in the Works
Let’s get dangerous!
After years of silence, it looks like the Darkwing Duck reboot isn’t dead after all. A new report from TheDisInsider breathes a little life back into the Disney+ project, originally announced way back in 2020.
While the studio hasn’t made anything official in a long time, the reboot is reportedly still in development, it’s just flying under the radar.
The series is being developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who serve as producers on the reboot of the iconic Disney Afternoon superhero show. The report doesn’t offer much in the way of new plot or casting details, but it does suggest that the project is still alive in some form.
Adding to the update is a resurfaced fan encounter with the one and only Jim Cummings, the voice behind the original Darkwing. According to that post, Cummings mentioned back in 2024 that the reboot was still in the works and that he’d be returning to voice the new take on the character. Nothing’s been officially confirmed, but if true, it would be awesome.
I was a huge fan of Darkwing Duck when I was growing up, so it would be pretty amazing if this series revival actually happened.
This new Darkwing Duck series would mark the third iteration of the character, who debuted in 1991 as a pulpy, tongue-in-cheek superhero series with Jim Cummings as the voice of Drake Mallard.
It ran for over 90 episodes and later returned as a reimagined version during the DuckTales reboot in 2017. That version even featured an hour-long special focused on Darkwing, where Cummings returned, but as a villainous version of the hero.
Now, with fresh talk of the Disney+ reboot still moving forward, the door hasn’t fully closed on seeing St. Canard’s finest in action once more. The terror that flaps in the night might just be gearing up for a big comeback.
