Dave Bautista Has Reportedly Joined a STAR WARS Project

Dave Bautista could be heading to a galaxy far, far away, and if this report turns out to be legit, he feels like a good fit for the Star Wars universe.

Bautista has already made his mark on some massive franchises with Guardians of the Galaxy, the MCU, and Dune, and now the former WWE star is reportedly jumping aboard a mystery Star Wars project for Disney and Lucasfilm.

Industry insider MyTimeToShineHello shared the report on X, saying, “Dave Bautista has been cast in a Star Wars project.”

That's all the information we have right now. There's no word on who Bautista might be playing, whether he's appearing in a movie or Disney+ series, or which of Lucasfilm's many projects he's attached to. Disney and Lucasfilm also haven't officially confirmed the casting.

Still, Bautista joining Star Wars isn't hard to imagine. The guy can play a hulking warrior, a terrifying villain, a weathered soldier, or a surprisingly vulnerable character when the material calls for it.

The report also comes at an interesting time for Star Wars, as Lucasfilm continues figuring out what the next era of the franchise will look like.

Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy, is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027. Ryan Gosling leads the cast alongside Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Flynn Gray, and Aaron Pierre.

There's also Simon Kinberg developing a new Star Wars trilogy that has reportedly been envisioned as Episodes 10 through 12 of the Skywalker Saga. James Mangold remains attached to Dawn of the Jedi, while a standalone Rey movie starring Daisy Ridley may also still be in development.

Any one of those could potentially be Bautista's mystery project, assuming the casting report is accurate, but there's currently nothing connecting him to a specific film. Lucasfilm could also have something else cooking that hasn't been announced yet.

All of this is happening as Star Wars goes through some major changes. The Mandalorian and Grogu recently struggled at the box office, earning less during its opening weekend than Solo: A Star Wars Story managed with its debut.

Lucasfilm has also entered a new era of leadership. Kathleen Kennedy departed after 14 years running the studio, with Dave Filoni taking over creative leadership duties. That puts Filoni in a major position as Lucasfilm decides what stories and characters will define Star Wars going forward.

As for Bautista, there are a ton of possibilities here. He has the physical presence for the kind of intimidating characters Star Wars loves, but some of his strongest performances have come from playing characters with much more going on beneath the surface.

His work in Dune, Blade Runner 2049, and Knock at the Cabin showed that he's capable of bringing much more to a role than simply being the biggest guy in the room.

For now, though, this remains a casting rumor. Disney and Lucasfilm haven't announced Bautista as part of any Star Wars project, and we don't know what role he might be playing.

But if Dave Bautista really has joined Star Wars, I'm definitely curious to see what Lucasfilm has planned for him. Personally, I'm hoping they give him something weird, dangerous, and completely unexpected rather than simply casting him as another muscle-bound enforcer.

What kind of Star Wars character would you like to see Bautista play?
