STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER Plot Leak Reveals New Details on Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, and Matt Smith's Characters

While Lucasfilm has remained tight-lipped about the story for the upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter, a newly surfaced plot leak is offering what sounds like our best look yet at the characters played by Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, Mia Goth, and Matt Smith, along with where this next chapter fits into the future of the franchise.

The stakes are especially high for Starfighter. Following the massive success of The Mandalorian on Disney+, The Mandalorian and Grogu is reportedly tracking toward disappointing box office results, putting even more attention on Shawn Levy's upcoming theatrical adventure.

As the first Star Wars movie set roughly five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it's expected to help define what comes next for the galaxy far, far away.

According to leaker @FivesWalker, who has previously shared accurate details about several Star Wars projects before official announcements, Starfighter centers on a Force-sensitive young boy and the unlikely hero tasked with protecting him.

The insider claims that Goth's character isn't a Sith cultist as some rumors suggested. Instead, she's described as a Force-sensitive warrior with her own motivations.

The leaker explains: "Mia Goth will be playing a force-senstive, lightsaber using character. She will be working for a warlord/arms dealer (Matt Smith) who is infamous across the galaxy. And yes, she is on the hunt for Ryan Gosling's nephew."

They continued: "There have been various rumors saying she is a Sith cultist. Those are false. I would describe her more [as] a mercenary (think of Baylan and Shin). While she has ties to Matt Smith's character, she has her own agenda and plans. Plans that might involve training a certain someone."

That description brings to mind the dynamic between Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati from Ahsoka, suggesting Goth's character could occupy one of those morally gray spaces that often make for the most interesting Star Wars villains.

As for Gosling's role, it sounds like he's far from being a polished hero. According to the leak: "His mother (Amy Adams) is force-sensitive, and so is he.

“At the beginning of the film, she is killed, but in her dying moments, gives her son her lightsaber and tells him to go find his uncle, who he's never met.

“The kid's pretty smart, and manages to get off-world, finding his uncle in a cantina, a washed-up pilot and war hero haunted by ghosts of his past."

If accurate, Gosling's character appears to fit squarely into the classic Star Wars tradition of reluctant heroes. He's a former war hero carrying plenty of baggage who suddenly finds himself responsible for a Force-sensitive nephew being hunted across the galaxy.

The leaker added: "The two don't exactly get along at first, but in classic Star Wars fashion, I think you can imagine how it's going to go."

That's a setup that feels very much in line with the franchise's roots. A troubled veteran, a gifted young Force user, dangerous enemies in pursuit, and a galaxy full of adventure sounds like fertile ground for a fun new story.

Perhaps the most intriguing piece of the rumor is how it could connect to the future of the Jedi Order. Previous reports have suggested Gosling's character may be transporting his nephew across the galaxy to find someone capable of training him. If that's true, the destination could be Rey Skywalker.

Such a connection would provide a natural bridge to the long-awaited Rey-focused film starring Daisy Ridley, helping establish the next generation of Jedi while continuing the timeline beyond the Skywalker Saga.

Of course, it's important to remember that none of these details have been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. Still, Starfighter is aiming for a fresh adventure while embracing many of the elements that made fans fall in love with Star Wars in the first place.

The cast for Starfighter also includes Aaron Pierre, Flynn Gray, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.

The film is directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper. Levy and Kathleen Kennedy are producing, with Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen serving as executive producers.

Star Wars: Starfighter is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
