Dave Bautista Says He Fills "Unfulfilled as an Actor" and is Looking For a "Deep, Dramatic Moving Role"

Dave Bautista has come a long way as an actor from his days as a professional wrestler. His acting career took a huge leap forward with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and he’s gotten a lot of great acting gigs since then.

He’s really had an impressive career and has played some great characters, but despite that, Bautista feels “unfulfilled” as an actor, and he explains why.

While promoting his new film My Spy: The Eternal City, Bautista was candid about some of the internal challenges he’s wrestled with as a professional actor

He told ET: “I feel unfulfilled as an actor. I have goals onto certain spaces. I want to be an A to Z actor. I want to be in every genre.

“There's still a few that I haven't gotten into, a few boxes I haven't checked. But also I haven't gotten that role that is just that deep, dramatic moving role. [That's what I'm] searching for, so I feel very unfulfilled.”

I get it, it makes sense that he really wants to find that challenging dramatic role that is going to push him as an actor. At the same time, he’s constantly working in Hollywood, which is a business that’s so hard for a lot of people to break into and even when they do, it’s still hard for a lot of actors to find steady work.

Bautista also wants to direct one day, and says of that: “I'm a total control freak, so I want to direct. I want to direct performances and I want to make my own film.”

I’m sure that as Bautista continues his journey as an actor, he’ll find that role that he’s searching for. And if he wants to direct, I’m sure that will eventually come to him as well as he continues to try and make it happen.
