Dave Filoni Is Excited About the Opening Scene of His STAR WARS Movie; but He's Focused on AHSOKA Season 2

Dave Filoni is keeping busy at Lucasfilm as Chief Creative Officer, and at the same time he’s deep in development on two big Star Wars projects. He currently working on his Star Wars film, and the second season of Ahsoka.

During a recent interview with GamesRadar, Filoni offered an update on his Star Wars movie and specifically shared his excitement for the opening sequence of the film that he’s come up with.

When talking about the film in an interview with Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said: "Because I’ve been writing [Ahsoka season 2], things have clicked and I have a much better idea about where things are going to go.”

He continued: “I will say, I have an opening I really like quite a bit, I’m very excited about it for that picture. I’m excited about the potential of just doing it.”

While Filoni has a vision for the film he’s looking to make, right now, he’s focused on Ahsoka Season 2. He added: “Right now, my focus is clearly on [Ahsoka season 2] as well as the rest of the galaxy and how it’s spinning.”

Filoni also said that it’s been “fun to dive into and [work with]” Jon Favreau on The Mandalorian & Grogu and talked about the rest of the franchise and how he is just putting "one foot in front of the other" when it comes to the big slate of Star Wars projects.

When previously talking about the movie, Filoni said: “The way I look at it, there are [small] stories, and then there's the big story of the day, too.

A New Hope, [The Empire Strikes Back], and Return of the Jedi tell the important parts of the tale that really define the history of the period. There are all kinds of sub-stories underneath that. We've been building all these small stories."

The filmmaker then went on to discuss the theatrical experience, saying a film like the one he is making will feature an era-defining event: "To me, a theatrical experience has to have a big idea -- a monumental moment in the time period that changes what's happening.

“What Tony [Gilroy] has done [in Andor] and what we did in [Star Wars] Rebels, everything then changes when Luke blows up the Death Star. You're looking for those moments that define an era, and that's what the films really should be about -- whether it's characters coming together, or a defining moment."
