David Benioff and D.B. Weiss May Only Write One Movie in Their STAR WARS Trilogy

When Game of Thrones series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were hired by Lucasfilm to develop a new Star Wars trilogy, they signed on to write all three films. Well, it looks like that has changed.

In a recent report from THR, they say that Benioff and Weiss are currently writing a treatment for their trilogy, and they are now only committed to writing one script.

Sources say the Thrones pair is writing a treatment for a Star Wars trilogy and is committed to penning at least one of the films (the original deal was to write all three). It’s unclear if the duo, who also have another feature for Fox/Disney carved out, will do more than just write for Star Wars.

I imagine the reason for this is because of the big deal that they just closed with Netflix to develop several new films and shows. Those projects are definitely going to take up a lot of their time. What’s not clear is if they will direct any of these films.

We don’t know for sure what the Star Wars story they are developing will entail, but it has been rumored that it will be set during Knights of the Old Republic, which the fans would love to see! That hasn’t been confirmed, but Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said that they “are developing something to look at” in regards to Knights of the Old Republic.

It’ll be interesting to see how this films all plays out, but their Star Wars film will be the first one that is released in 2022 afterThe Rise of Skywalker. After how Game of Thrones came to an end, I’m sure some fans will be relieved to hear they aren’t writing all three films.
