David Dastmalchian To Star Alongside Alexander Skarsgård in Sci-Fi Series MURDERBOT
David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer) is set to star alongside Alexander Skarsgård in Apple TV+‘s upcoming sci-fi series project, Murderbot. The series is being developed by About a Boy creators Chris and Paul Weitz and Paramount Television Studios.
The series is based on Martha Wells’ bestselling book series, The Murderbot Diaries, “The 10-episode series is about a self-hacking security android who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable ‘clients.’ Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.”
The first book in the series is All Systems Red, and the story is set on a distant planet. It follows “a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid -- a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as ‘Murderbot.’ Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.”
The Weitz Brothers are set to showrun, write, direct, and produce under their Depth of Field banner. David S. Goyer and Keith Levine are set to produce.
Dastmalchian will next be seen in the horror film Late Night with the Devil. His other upcoming projects include writer-director Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Life of Chuck, and the Bryan Fuller film, Dust Bunny.
