David Duchovny Will Come Back For More X-FILES if Creator Chris Carter Ever Wanted To Make More
If The X-Files creator Chris Carter ever decided to continue the story for the series, you can count on David Duchovny to be there to reprise his role as Agent Fox Mulder.
During a recent interview with the Danish website kino.dk, Duchovny stated that while he “doesn’t really think about” making more X-Files, he would “be there” for Carter if he ever decided to continue the story:
“Oh, I don’t really think about it anymore. I mean— I think, uh... I’ve always thought it’s such a great idea that somebody’s eventually going to pick it up again— and I don’t know if I’ll be a part of that, but...I just always— I think it’s a great frame. It’s a great world. Yeah, I don’t know. But I don’t actively think about— yeah.
“Chris is a good friend and I’d be there for him, whatever he wanted.”
That’s good to know! As you know, Gillian Anderson doesn’t feel the same way and the last season that we saw was her last. Carter recently apologized for the plot threads that were left unresolved in Season 11, knowing that Anderson wasn't interested in returning for a Season 12. Carter previously shared:
“Skinner, Mulder, Scully, and William’s stories are still unresolved. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to do that. Being that Gillian has decided to move on with her career, we certainly couldn’t do Mulder and Scully again. But that’s not to say there isn’t another way to do the X-Files. And so right now I think the future is unwritten.”
I wouldn’t mind seeing The X-Files story continue if Carter could find an interesting and unique way to get around the fact that Anderson won’t be back.
There is an animated comedy series titled The X-Files: Albuquerque that’s in development at Fox, but Duchovny and Anderson have nothing to do with it.
That story will revolve around an “office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with.” It’s explained that these agents are basically the X-Files’ B-team.
That sounds like it will be fun, but I’d definitely like to get some closure on the Agent Mulder and Agent Scully story!
