David Fincher Open to Making THE SOCIAL NETWORK Sequel, but Says "That's a Can of Worms"
David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin have talked in the past about the possibility of making a sequel to the 2010 Academy-winning film The Social Network. After everything that the social media company has been through over the years since the release of that first movie, I think a sequel would actually be even more interesting than the first movie.
Well, the sequel is something that Fincher is still talking about doing, and when asked about it in an interview with The Guardians, he said: “Aaron [Sorkin, The Social Network’s screenwriter] and I have talked about it, but, um… that’s a can of worms.” Fincher didn’t elaborate on that.
Sorkin previously talked about the possible sequel saying: ”I think what has been going on with Facebook these last few years is a story very much worth telling, and there is a way to tell it as a follow up to The Social Network, and that’s as much as I know.”
The producer of the original film, Scott Rudin, added: "I do want to see it. And Scott wants to see it. People have been talking to me about it. What we’ve discovered is the dark side of Facebook."
It’s said that Sorkin “has taken an interest in Roger McNamee, an early Facebook investor who published the 2019 book Zucked, which was critical of the company. Sorkin has met with McNamee, who raised red flags to Zuckerberg and Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg after noticing strange political activity on the platform.”
Sorkin said he would love to dig in and make a movie that covers the dark side of Facebook, but only on the condition that David Fincher comes back to direct.
If they are talking about the possibility of making a sequel, there’s a chance that it’ll eventually happen. If it did, would you be interested in watching it?
