David Gordon Green to Direct Miramax Thriller SUPERMAX

David Gordon Green is gearing up for his next big project, a high-concept action thriller titled Supermax, which Miramax has officially fast-tracked for a spring production start.

The film, written by David Weil and David J. Rosen, is described as a propulsive thriller centered on two FBI agents investigating a brutal murder that takes place inside the world’s most secure prison. Supermax sounds like a tense and claustrophobic ride tailor-made for Green’s gritty storytelling style.

Miramax snagged the project last May after a competitive bidding war. Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona of The Picture Company are producing, with Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, and COO Thom Zadra serving as executive producers.

Green is set to jump into Supermax after finishing his work on Amazon’s upcoming series Scarpetta, an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling novels about a Virginia medical examiner. That project stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, and Ariana DeBose.

Supermax also marks a reunion for Green and co-writer Rosen, who recently teamed up for the upcoming Apple TV series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, which Green is also directing and executive producing.

With its high-concept premise and creative team, Supermax is sounds like it could end up being a gripping and intense thriller.
