DC Studios Reveals LANTERNS Logo and Fans Immediately Call It Out

DC Studios has officially unveiled the logo for its upcoming DCU series Lanterns, and instead of hype, it sparked a wave of complaints from fans online. The Green Lantern series is still a few months away from hitting HBO, but the conversation has already kicked off thanks to one very noticeable design choice.

Or rather, the lack of one.

The logo for Lanterns leans heavily into a minimal, clean look. It’s mostly white text with only the faintest hint of green tucked into the lower middle portion of the design. For a show centered on the Green Lantern Corps, that creative decision didn’t sit well with a lot of fans.

Green is the defining color of the Lanterns. It represents their power rings, their energy constructs, and their iconic suits. So when fans saw a logo that barely featured the color at all, reactions were swift.

One fan wrote on X, “Seriously? No green light coming from a Green Lantern ring?”

Another user posted their own redesigned version of the logo and asked, “Was it too much to ask?”

Others weren’t subtle about their disappointment. “Couldn’t even make it green? This sucks,” one commenter wrote.

Another fan shared a screenshot of a tweet suggesting DC was playing it too safe with its branding. They added, “The prophecy is true.”

Some fans even went as far as creating their own alternate logos, offering designs that leaned harder into glowing emerald energy and classic Green Lantern imagery. It didn’t take long before social media feeds were filled with fan edits that many felt captured the spirit of the Corps more effectively.

Of course, a logo is just a logo. What really matters is the series itself, and there’s a lot riding on Lanterns as DC Studios continues building out its new DC Universe.

The show is set to premiere on HBO in late Summer 2026 and comes from DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who previously revealed that the series draws inspiration from the crime drama True Detective.

The story will follow veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan as he mentors new recruit John Stewart while the two investigate a mysterious murder in Nebraska. It’s a grounded, earthbound mystery wrapped in cosmic mythology.

Kyle Chandler is set to play Hal Jordan, with Aaron Pierre stepping into the role of John Stewart. The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, along with Nathan Fillion, who will reprise his role as Guy Gardner after appearing in Superman in 2025.

Supporting cast members include Garret Dillahunt, Jason Ritter, Nicole Ari Parker, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Sherman Augustus, and J. Alphonse Nicholson.

So while the logo may have fumbled its first impression for some fans, the talent involved and the gritty detective angle have the potential to deliver something cool for DCU audiences.

Still, when you’re launching a Green Lantern series, maybe going a little heavier on the green wouldn’t hurt.
