DC's THE FLASH Movie is Said to Be Inspired By BACK TO THE FUTURE and More DC Entertainment Details

Ever since Batman v Superman was released, DC Entertainment has been on a path to making films comic book films with a lighter tone. They tried to fix that aspect of Justice League by letting Zack Snyder go and bringing in Joss Whedon, but that didn't really work out for anybody.

Wonder Woman gave the fans what they were looking for and now James Wan's upcoming Aquaman film is said to be the film that will set the DCEU on the right path. This new direction that DC Entertainment is taking now set to spill over into the solo Flash film.

A new report from THR gives us an update on The Flash film, which is being written and directed by John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night, Spider-Man: Homecoming). According to the report Back to the Future is going to be their main inspiration for the film.

The Flash, which will finally begin production in early 2019 with Ezra Miller starring, has abandoned the somber themes it had been expected to tackle. The film now has the Game Night team of John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein on board, and it’s looking to Back to the Future as a touchstone.

The movie was previously said to be called Flashpoint which hinted at the story that it would tell. But, who knows if things have changed over the past few months. One thing's for sure, it's not hard to imagine a Flash movie inspired by Back to the Future. That could be fun, especially with the tone. 

There are a few other things that were revealed. The report notes that Todd Phillips and Joaquin Pheonix's Joker origin film will have a lower budget of about $55 million. It's also said that it will be released under a new brand for the darker DC films called "DC Dark" or DC Black".

They also talk a bit about the new person in charge of the DC properties at Warner Bros. His name is Walter Hamada and he is re-evaluating everything being developed and he doesn’t want to make any big movie slate announcements that stretch years out into the future. A source says:

The exec, who successfully oversaw the Conjuring movies at New Line, inherited a slate in disarray and has quietly spent months sorting through projects. “He walked into a shitshow, and he’s trying to clean it up,” says one insider familiar with the scene.
