DC's THE FLASH Movie To Start Production in Late 2019 For a 2021 Release Date
For those of you who are looking forward to DC Entertainment’s standalone Flash movie, it looks like we’re going to have be patient because we’ll have to wait a bit.
I’ve actually been looking forward to The Flash! I kinda liked how his character was handled in Justice League and I’m interested to see what story they have planned for him. I also enjoyed Ezra Miller in the role and apparently, his scheduling is one of the reasons why WB can’t rush into making the movie.
According to Variety, the script for the film is still in development and the studio doesn’t think there will be enough time to get the script ready to make the original start date, which was early 2019. Then with the third Fantastic Beasts film scheduled to start shooting in summer of 2019, which Miller has a supporting role in, the soonest WB could get The Flash into production is at the end of the 2019 year. That likely means the superhero adventure won’t debut in theaters until sometime in 2021.
The Flash is currently being written by Spider-Man: Homecoming scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein and they will also direct the film. We don’t have a lot of details on what the movie will entail, but it is said to be inspired by Robert Zemeckis’ classic 80’s film Back To The Future.
The movie was also previously said to be called Flashpoint which hinted at the story that it would tell. There were also rumors of Ben Affleck’s Batman being involved. But, after all the changes that have happened at WB and DC since that title was announced, there’s a good chance that the original plan for the story may have been scrapped.
After everything that WB and DC have gone through over the past year, I’m really curious about how this movie will turn out. How about you?
