DEADPOOL Continues Its Ridiculous Marketing Campaign With This Emoji Billboard
We're less than a month away from Deadpool hitting theaters, and I still find it hard to believe that this movie has actually been made by a major Hollywood studio. Longtime followers of sites like this will remember that it took years for this to happen, and I just assumed fans would have to be content with fan films for the rest of their lives, because, honestly, what studio would have the balls to make a Deadpool movie and actually give it the R-rating that it needs to do justice to the character? Against all odds, 20th Century Fox stepped up and made it happen, and barring some sort of insane scenario reminiscent of The Interview, we're actually going to see it in theaters nationwide.
So far, the marketing campaign has been nailing it and making its target demographic very happy, but it remains to be seen how the movie will do outside of the core audience that are already 100% convinced to see it. I have to say, this emoji-filled billboard — photographed in Los Angeles by Patton Oswalt — probably isn't going to convert anyone unfamiliar with the character, but it definitely has the sense of humor that fans love.
