DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Director Shares Cameo Strategy and Aaron Stanford Comments
We all know that Deadpool & Wolverine is going to be packed to the brim with cameos. So many characters and actors have been rumored, and fans are excited to see who actually ends up popping up in the movie.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Shawn Levy talked about his cameo strategy, saying: "We didn't want any of the cameos or characters to be the story of the movie. But they are peppered in throughout.”
He added: “There's a lot of characters. The internet is a delight of rumors about the multitude of character cameos that are in this movie. Some rumors are true, some are way off base."
Levy continued: "Wade himself is a fan. Without giving anything away about the various universes the different characters live in. Because he's in some ways a fawning motormouthed little fanboy himself, it allows the movie to call out and reference a ton of deep-cut Marvel references."
One of the confirmed cameos includes Aaron Stanford, the actor who played Pyro in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. Stanford talked about returning to the role, saying: "I was just very happy to even have a costume."
He continued: "In the original X-Men films, Pyro gets really shortchanged in terms of a costume. In X2, we start off with Pyro in Xavier's School for Gifted Mutants. The SWAT team bursts in in the middle of the night and we have to flee. So for half the movie, I'm in my jammies."
The actor added: "I never got the cool leather, tactical suit that all the X-Men wear. And in X3, I was just dressed in an ensemble from Hot Topic, basically. So to have him be in a proper superhero costume that was actually taken from the comics themselves was very cool."
Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date – “Deadpool & Wolverine. A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life.
“His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest?
“He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to – Fu-k. Synopses are so f–king stupid.”
The existential threat in the movie is Cassandra Nova, who is the evil twin sister of the X-Men's Professor Charles Xavier who poses a threat to the multiverse.
This whole story will lead to Deadpool changing the history of the MCU as he and Wolverine jump across the multiverse in a crazy adventure.
Shawn Levy is directing the movie and the confirmed cast for the movie also includes Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic as Vanessa and Colossus, Matthew Macfadyen as a TVA Agent, and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al.
They are joined by Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna, who will also return to the franchise as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s girlfriend Yukio. It was previously confirmed that Jennifer Garner will return as Elektra in the movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26th!
