DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Director Teases Hugh Jackman's Performance is "Unlike Anything I've Seen" in Other Movies
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy recently opened up about Hugh Jackman’s new version of Wolverine and teased that his performance is "unlike anything he's seen" from Jackman before in his previous superhero movies.
During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Levy was asked what Jackman brought to the film, and he said: "I think it was reciprocal. Hugh brought something, we brought something as writers.
"Hugh brought his 55 years… Hugh brought his soul and gravitas and wisdom and heart from having lived this many years, and having been Wolverine this long.
“He's a haunted man [in this movie], who's wrestling something, and Hugh brought a depth of feeling and experience that is unlike anything I've seen in the other movies.”
I think one of Jackman’s best performances of his career came in James Mangold’s Logan, but this movie features a different version of Wolverine, so Jackman is playing a much different character, so his performance is going to be a whole new take, which will be cool and interesting.
Levy went on to say: "Our job was to give him some meat to chew on," where Jackman could "tear it up and explore a Logan who's still very much the character we love but maybe less silent, less laconic, a little less distant."
He added: "The challenge was writing Logan scenes with words that Hugh can say that don't betray the character that we all adore."
Judging from what I’ve seen from the footage released, it looks like they managed to pull it off. It looks like they have done something special with Wolverine, something that fans will appreciate.
It will be interesting to learn more about this version of the character and his tragic past that has been hinted at.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26th!
