DEADPOOL Writers Confirm Marvel Will Continue with R-Rated Films and Ryan Reynolds Visits Marvel Studios

Early on after Disney bought Fox, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have said that they would allow for the Deadpool franchise to continue to be rated R. Later on there was talk of the studios trying to figure out how the character could move between R and PG-13 Marvel films, so we weren’t sure how things would turn out.

Well, according to franchise writer Paul Wernick, Marvel has “promised” to continue to let them play in the R-rated Deadpool universe. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said:

“We’re always in touch with Ryan. We’ve got several projects with him in addition to the Deadpool universe. I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out. Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox. Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great… I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races. Ryan’s super-busy, we’ve got a lot of projects lined up, but we wake up thinking about Deadpool, and we go to sleep thinking about Deadpool.”

While Reynolds is a super busy guy, he recently found time to go to Marvel Studios and shared the following photo on Twitter:

I imagine he went there to discuss the future of Deadpool with Kevin Feige. We have no idea why exactly he was there, but we know that one day we will be treated with a new Deadpool film and that Deadpool movie has the green light for an R-rating.

What do you all hope to see from from a third Deadpool movie? I’m personally really curious to see how they end up integrating the character with the rest of the MCU. Whatever they do, it should be a fun ride!
