Denis Villeneuve Teases Zendaya's Prominent Role in DUNE: PART TWO and a Challenging Sandworm Scene
Denis Villeneuve is planning some big things for Dune: Part Two and he is prepping to shoot the film in the fall. The first film was just a setup for the big epic things to come, the second half of the story is the most interesting and it’s sure to be filled with even more epic action.
In a recent interview with Variety, Villeneuve opened up a bit more about the movie and talked about Zendaya’s role in the film as Chani, and how it will be more prominent this time around. He says:
“For Zendaya, I will say Part One was a promise. I know that we saw a glimpse of her in Part One, but in Part Two, she’ll have a prominent part. We will follow Timothée [Chalamet] and Zendaya on their adventures in the desert. That’s the thing that excited me most about going back to Arrakis is to spend time with those characters again.”
He went on to tease a big complicated scene in the sequel involving sandworms and how it’s going to be a hard one for him to get right. He said:
“It involves sandworms that’s going to be one of the beautiful challenges of my life. And I know if I do it right, that will be the scene.”
Well, shit. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to try and pull off with this scene! When previously talking about the film and the script, the filmmaker says that it’s “finished mostly, but it’s always a work in progress.” He added: “It’ll be a work in progress until final cut, but I will say it’s solidified. I have a script in my hands. We are in prep right now. My crew, we are in full prep for the movie.”
Dune: Part Two will also bring back Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, and Javier Bardem. Then we have Florence Pugh, who is in final negotiations to play Princess Irulan, and Elvis actor Austin Butler, who is in talks to play Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s sadistic nephew and heir, Feyd-Rautha.
The film is set to be released on October 20, 2023.
