Denzel Washington Reveals He's Set To Star in BLACK PANTHER 3
Denzel Washington has revealed that he is going to star in Marvel’s Black Panther 3, saying that writer and director Ryan Coogler created a role just for him in the film.
During a recent interview with The Today Show Australia to talk about Gladiator II, Washington was asked whether he still carried any anxieties around starring in films like Gladiator.
Washington responded, saying: “At this point in my career, I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make, probably not that many.
“I want to do things that I haven’t done. I played Othello at 22, I’m now going to play it at 70. After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film.”
Washington then added: “After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film Othello. After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”
Washington gave a little smirk and threw up a peace sign after his retirement comment. I’m pretty sure that Washington wasn’t supposed to share that news about Black Panther 3 and I imagine he’ll get a call from Kevin Feige now that the news is spreading.
There are no details that have been revealed about Black Panther 3, but during a previous interview, Coogler talked about returning to the franchise, saying: "I feel blessed that I have the opportunity to work on these movies, bro.
“When I got asked to do the first one, it was like a moving train. I thank God every day that I was able to jump on it and meet these people, these actors, and to meet Chadwick during some of the last years of his life.
“I’ll do it as long as folks will have me. But I think it’s bigger than just me or Joe. Between the first and second movie, we made $2 billion at the box office, which is what matters the most to corporations.
“So I hope that it continues, man. I hope people are still making movies about Wakanda long after we’re gone."
What are your thoughts on Washington joining Black Panther 3?
