Destin Daniel Cretton Talks SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Trailer Delay and Shuts Down WONDER MAN “Snub” Talk
Destin Daniel Cretton is stepping in to set the record straight on a couple rumors regarding the long awaited Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer and claims that Marvel sidelined Wonder Man.
Cretton first made his mark in the MCU with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. After briefly being attached to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, he shifted gears to develop Wonder Man for Marvel Television and eventually landed in the director’s chair for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
With Spidey’s next big-screen chapter set to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026, anticipation is through the roof.
Fans were hoping to catch the first trailer during the Super Bowl, but that didn’t happen, and fans were left disappointed. Sony Pictures appears to be following the same strategy it used for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which didn’t debut footage until about four months before its December 2021 release.
That rollout worked pretty well, and there’s no reason to think lightning can’t strike twice, especially after a leaked teaser and some promo art already started circulating online.
Asked about the trailer wait and its Super Bowl no-show, Cretton kept things light. He said, "I think it's so funny how people really want a trailer. Of course it's gonna come. It's gonna be really good when it comes. It's coming."
So, you can all relax. It’s on the way.
While Spider-Man fans are itching for footage, another conversation has been brewing around Wonder Man. Some viewers have claimed Marvel Studios quietly pushed the series onto Disney+ without much support.
The perception likely comes from the fact that the show dropped all its episodes on the same day, rather than rolling them out weekly like most MCU series.
In reality, the show received a solid promotional push. The bigger difference was the binge-style release, which trades weekly social media speculation for a full-season drop.
Cretton addressed the criticism directly in an interview with Majic 102.1, saying, "If Marvel didn’t care about this show, it wouldn’t be out in the world at all. And it definitely would not be out in the world in the form that it is.
“I am very happy to see that people are loving the show for the same reasons we do, because it’s different. It’s a bit of a big swing for Marvel to take. And I can’t say it was a struggle to make."
Cretton added, "Everybody from Kevin on down really loved the tone of the show and loved that it was different, and loved pushing limits. And everybody here loves movies, and that’s what the show is really about," he continued.
"So yeah, the internet likes to make up stories and narratives. But I love the passion behind it because people just love the show and want more people to see it. So I’m all for that."
That’s a pretty clear rebuttal to the “Marvel didn’t care” narrative. If anything, it sounds like Wonder Man was allowed to take creative risks because the studio believed in what it was doing.
Interestingly, the binge model might be sticking around. It was just revealed that Spider-Noir will also drop its entire eight-episode first season in one go. That suggests Marvel and its partners are experimenting with different release strategies depending on the project.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be a massive event. Cretton directs from a script by returning Spider-Man writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, joined by Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III, Jacob Batalon, and Liza Colón-Zayas.
The movie is set to be released on July 31, 2026.
