DETECTIVE PIKACHU Adds Rita Ora to the Cast and Release Date Announced

The latest person to join the Detective Pikachu film is singer-actress Rita Ora. Ora just had a supporting role in Fifty Shades Freed and now she’s going for a more family-friendly movie as she joins Ken Watanabe and Suki Waterhouse as support in the upcoming Detective Pikachu film from Legendary.

Just like Waterhouse, the details of Ora’s character are being kept secret. The cast for this film is getting pretty diverse and pretty crazy in my opinion. I’m most interested in seeing some footage of Ryan Reynolds in the motion-capture suit for the role, though. The movie also stars Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies), and Ken Watanabe.

The story of Detective Pikachu centers around Smith’s character’s father getting kidnapped. He teams up with Pikachu (Reynolds) to help find him. Newton plays a journalist who helps them on their quest. Ken Watanabe will play a new character created for the film called Detective Yoshida.

The movie is being directed by Goosebumps director Rob Letterman from a script that is being written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls). Detective Pikachu will be the first film in a planned franchise centering on the character.

In addition to the casting announcement, It's reported that the release date for the film will be May 10, 2019.
