Director of Rey Skywalker-Based STAR WARS Film Says the Project Is "Something Very Special"
Daisy Ridley is returning to play Rey Skywalker in a new Star Wars film, in a story that will center around the character ten years after we saw her last in the 2019 wrap up to the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker. The actress thought that film was her final appearance as the character, but when she was approached with a story helmed by director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) and writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), she was compelled to return.
Now, director Obaid-Chinoy is talking about the project, and she’s sharing her excitement for the next chapter. In an interview with CNN, she said:
“I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special. And we’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”
The film will take place over a decade after the events in The Rise of Skywalker, and it will focus on Rey as she builds upon the New Jedi Order.
Star Wars: New Jedi Order is currently in pre-production, and it is set to hit theaters in 2027.
