Director Patty Jenkins Has The Whole Story Mapped Out For WONDER WOMAN 3 But She's Going To Take a Break From DC

While Wonder Woman 1984 won’t be released in theaters until next summer, director Patty Jenkins already has the whole story for Wonder Woman 3 mapped out. If the upcoming sequel ends up being a success, you know that Warner Bros. is going to greenlight this third film. It’s also rumored that the studio is developing a spinoff film that focuses on the Amazons of Themyscira.

During a recent interview with THR, Jenkins was asked about a third Wonder Woman film, and she said:

"We actually already know the whole story to it. It’s just a matter of, will we change our minds, and when [to make it]."

She then goes on to explain that she’s not going to rush into this next film and may take a break from DC movies to do other things:

"I think what we don't want to do is do it back to back. It's been great doing these two movies back to back, but I think it's important to give it a little rest in between. And I like doing other things in between. And Gal has other things to do. I never want to make decisions too far in advance. We have to see if we both feel like making the movie we think we want to make when the moment comes."

So, who knows when we’ll see the third Wonder Woman film. The first movie was released in 2017, the sequel will be released three years later in 2020 and they shot those films back to back. So if there’s going to be a break, it may be between 5 and 6 years before we see a new Wonder Woman movie. In the meantime, we might see that Amazonian spinoff get made.

I think the studio is just going to wait to see how Wonder Woman 1984 does before they pull the trigger on anything else in the franchise. I think it looks great, though, and I’m excited to see it.
