Director Steve McQueen Reportedly Wanted For James Bond Directing Job
A new report has surfaced regarding the next installment of the James Bond franchise. 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen is reportedly up for the directing job.
Fans have been hoping to see Christopher Nolan jump into the franchise and there were some rumors regarding that, but he has denied any involvement, even though he has expressed interest.
The report says: "Steve is one of the UK's best filmmakers and has an incredible vision. The word is that the Bond producers wanted to see if Steve would ever consider having a hand in one of the films and they got a positive response. It would be incredible if it came off."
McQueen most recently directed the film Blitz, starring Saoirse Ronan, and he also helmed Widows and Occupied City. McQueen was nominated for Best Director at the Oscars, and he took home the gold for Best Picture.
The new report also claims that casting for the next Bond has "restarted," but there is no word on who might be stepping into Craig's shoes.
When previously talking about the franchise, producer Barbara Broccoli says they’ve barely scratched the surface of the next iteration of Bond, and there's "a big road ahead." She also explained that the iconic character has to be "reinvented for the next chapter."
"I go back to GoldenEye when everyone was saying 'the cold war is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, no need for Bond, the whole world's at peace and now there's no villains' – and boy was that wrong!
"Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character … and also the world was ready for it. I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there's a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven't even begun with that."
What do you think about the possibility of McQueen talking on the next Bond movie?
