Disaster Comedy Y2K Coming From SNL's Kyle Mooney with Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, and Alicia Silverstone to Star
A24, the studio that recently swept the Oscars with Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Whale, has a new movie in the works that's sure to spark some excitement! The film is titled Y2K, a disaster comedy that will be directed by SNL alum Kyle Mooney, and the all-star cast has been announced.
The story is set on New Year’s Eve in 1999, and it follows “two high school nobodies who decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets more insane than they ever could have imagined.”
Leading the pack of the cast is Jaeden Martell, best known for his role in the It movies, Knives Out, and the Apple TV+ miniseries Defending Jacob. Joining him is Rachel Zegler, who starred in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, the recently released Shazam! sequel, and is set to star in Disney’s Snow White remake. Rounding out the trio is Julian Dennison, the breakout star of Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Firefist in Deadpool 2.
The stacked ensemble also includes Lachlan Watson from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Mason Gooding from Scream VI, 5x Billboard Music Award-winner The Kid Laroi, Tim Heidecker from Us, Eduardo Franco from Stranger Things, Alicia Silverstone from Clueless, Fred Hechinger from Fear Street Trilogy, Miles Robbins from Blockers, and Daniel Zolghadri from Funny Pages.
Y2K was written by Evan Winter and A24 will be financing the film. Weta Workshop, the same folks behind the visual effects of The Lord of the Rings and various other films, will oversee the film’s design and practical effects.
