Disney Is Looking to Cut Back on Marvel and Star Wars Content

As Disney CEO Bob Iger continues his mission of fixing all of Disney’s problems, it looks like fans can expect to see less Marvel and Star Wars content. During an interview with CNBC, when talking about those franchises, he said:

"You pull back not just to focus, but also as part of our cost containment initiative. Spending less on what we make, and making less.”

He went on to say:

"Marvel is a great example of that. It had not been in the television business at any significant level, and not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of TV series. Frankly, it diluted focus and attention."

I 100% agree with that. Marvel needs to be focusing on quality instead of quantity, and fans have seen how the quality of the work is suffering from it. One of the recent projects that didn’t have that problem was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 because James Gunn was given all the time he needed to make it the right way.

As for the Star Wars franchise, I feel like it’s in a sweet spot right now. There’s not too much content coming out, but it’s consistent enough to keep fans happy and entertained. They still have yet to figure out the movie content, but that may change with the film coming from Dave Filoni, James Mangold, Taika Waititi, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

One thing we know Disney won’t cut back on… the live-action remakes of their classic Disney animated films.
