Disney May End Up Releasing More Upcoming Films on Disney+ Instead of in Theaters

It looks like Artemis Fowl won’t be the only Disney movie pulled from its theatrical release to be shared on Disney+ instead. According to Disney executive chairman Bob Iger, there are other upcoming films that could end up on Disney+ as well.

During a recent interview with Barron's, he explained:

"There are some we’ve decided to put on Disney+. We already announced one, Artemis Fowl, that would have been released in theaters. Others we’ve simply delayed. In some cases we’ve moved things onto Disney+ faster than we would have. Frozen 2 was one of them, but Onward would be the biggest example. It was in theaters when this happened. We moved to a pay-per-view period for a couple of weeks where people could buy it and own it. And then we ended up putting it on Disney+.

"In terms of movies going ahead after Artemis, there may be a few more that we end up putting directly onto Disney+, but for the most part a lot of the big tentpole Disney films, we’ll simply wait for slots. In some cases we’ve announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar."

There’s no information on what films they are looking at, but we know that it won’t be any of the big tent-pole MCU films. There are a lot of films that were given new theatrical release dates. However, there are a few films that still don’t have release dates, and those films include The New Mutants, Woman in the Window, Antlers, and The Personal History of David Copperfield.

If there are any films that could end up on Disney+ or Hulu these are the ones to look out for. But, we’ll see anything could change depending on how long movie theaters are going to be shut down for.

Which films do you think Disney will release on their streaming services?
