Disney Locks Down Release Dates for Eight Live-Action Fairy Tale Film Projects

Movie Disney by Joey Paur

Disney has seen a lot of success with its live-action fairy tale film projects over the years. The Jungle Book is continuing to blow up at the box office, and the studio obviously wants to see that trend continue with more movies. They’ve recently announced release dates for eight untitled live-action fairy tale films that they are developing. Those dates are:

  • July 28, 2017: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • April 4, 2018: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • August 3, 2018: Untitled Disney (Live Action)
  • November 2, 2018: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • December 25, 2018: Untitled Disney (Live Action)
  • March 29, 2019: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • November 8, 2019: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • December 20, 2019: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)

So if you’ve ben enjoying the live-action adaptations of these Disney animated classics, then there are lots more to come. We don’t know exactly which films will fill these slots, but there are several movies that Disney is currently developing and here is a rundown:

  • Cruella with Emma Stone set for the title role and Kelly Marcel writing
  • A Wrinkle in Time with Ava DuVernay attached to direct and Jennifer Lee writing
  • Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson set to star and John Requa and Glenn Ficarra writing
  • Dumbo with director Tim Burton and writer Ehren Kruger
  • A sequel to Mary Poppins with director Rob Marshall, starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda
  • Maleficent 2 with Angelia Jolie set to return in the title role and Linda Woolverton writing
  • The Nutcracker and the Four Realms with director Lasse Hallstrom and writer Ashleigh Powell
  • The Jungle Book 2 with both director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Marks returning
  • A Tinker Bell project with Reese Witherspoon set to star and Victoria Strouse writing

So you can expect some of these to fill in those dates over time. Other films that Disney is working on that are not on this list include Peter Pan from Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery, Winnie the Pooh, Mulan, Pinocchio, Genie, Prince Charming, and Rose Red

The upcoming films that are already coming out include James Bobin’s Alice Through the Looking Glass on May 27th, Lowery’s Pete’s Dragon on August 12th, and Bill Condon’s Beauty and the Beast on March 17th, 2017.

It doesn’t seem like Disney is ever going to stop with these live-action fairy tales. They’ve found something that represents the Disney brand and makes a lot of money so they’re going to stick with it. Can you blame them!? So on top of all these Disney films, we will be treated with all kinds of Marvel and Star Wars awesomeness.

As long as Disney keeps pumping out good quality movies, I’ll keep watching!
