Disney Removes Another STAR WARS Movie From the Release Schedule

Disney has pulled another Star Wars film off of its release schedule. A Star Wars film was set to be released on December 18th, 2026, but not anymore. Instead, Disney will release Ice Age 6 on that day.

There’s no information on what that film would’ve been, but I’m pretty sure that it was going to be Daisey Ridley’s Rey Skywalker project, which has been in development for some time and was working toward production. It makes sense that it would be the project to get delayed after screenwriter Steven Knight exited it.

The next Star Wars film project coming in 2026 is Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, which set to be released on May 22nd. That movie is currently in development and on track actually make its release date.

Lucasfilm also recently announced that they are developing a new trilogy with Simon Kinberg (X-Men) writing and producing the projects. There are no concrete details on what those film will entail, but there’s a good chance they will be separate from the Skywalker saga.

It’s been explained: "Kinberg’s efforts are meant to create a new saga, but as is the case with virtually all script development, specific plot details and characters are light years away from taking their final shape, let alone arrive in theaters."

As for the Rey movie, it is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and it is said to be set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.

The story will chronicle Rey’s efforts to start a new Jedi Academy, and it will focus on Rey as she builds the New Jedi Order.
