Disney Reportedly Wants Karen Gillan to Star in the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Reboot
It looks like Disney is ready to start moving forward with their Pirates of the Caribbean reboot ,and according to TheDisinsider and entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman, the studio is looking to cast Karen Gillan (Avengers: Endgame, Jumanji: The Next Level) in the lead role in the film.
The report goes on to say that it’s unknown if the actress has had any formal talks with the studio, but the studio is definitely interested. The report goes on to say that the studio is also considering women of color for the role.
It was previously reported that Jack Sparrow will be replaced by a female pirate named Redd in this reboot. This is a new female pirate that was included in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Disney theme parks. Redd can be seen in the auction scene of the ride.
This is a character that I can easily see Gillan playing, and I don’t think many fans will complain about Gillan playing a pirate. I won’t complain, I just wish it was a pirate movie other than Pirates of the Caribbean.
The project was originally being developed by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick but they ended up dropping out of the project. Disney most recently brought in the creator of HBO’s Chernobyl, Craig Mazin, to craft a story for the new Pirates movie with Ted Elliott, who co-wrote the first four films in the franchise.
What do you think about the possibility of Gillan taking on the role of Red in the next Pirates film?
