Disney+'s Canceled Captain Nemo Series NAUTILUS Finds a Home at AMC

Last year, Disney Studios produced a ten-part series titled Nautilus, which was inspired by Jules Verne’s classic novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. After the entire first season of the series was shot, Disney+ canceled it. Well, Nautilus has found a new home at AMC, where it will air at some point in 2024. I was actually curious about this series and looking forward to watching it, so it’s great that the show will eventually be released.

The series was set to give the famed 19th-century novel a new spin, “telling the origin story of Captain Nemo and his legendary submarine, the Nautilus. An Indian prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him, Nemo set sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring vessel, battling foes and discovering magical underwater worlds.”

Shazad Latif (The Pursuit of Love) takes on the lead role of Captain Nemo. His character is described as an “enigmatic Indian prince who steals a fantastical submarine from the East India Company and sets sail in search of adventure under the sea.” That submarine is the legendary Nautilus.

Ben Davis, EVP of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios said in a statement: “Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes. We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC+ and AMC as a special television event next year.”

Michael Matthews directed the epic 10-part series, and James Dormer executive produced and wrote the series. The show also stars Georgia Flood and Thierry Frémont, with Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville and Kayden Price

The series was shot in Australia, beginning last year, with supports from the Australian government and is distributed by Disney Entertainment.
