Disney's SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS 4K Restoration Coming to Disney+

Walt Disney changed animation in Hollywood forever when he made and released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. Well, the iconic film has gotten a 4K restoration, and that version of the movie will be released on Disney+ on October 16th. This was done to commemorate The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary.

Disney Animation animator/director Eric Goldberg said in a statement: “The opportunity to help restore Snow White was both an honor and a challenge. We felt we owed a debt to history to get it looking as beautiful and as accurate to the original colors as we could.”

He added: “The muted palette and the delicate watercolor backgrounds evoke the illustrated fairy tales that Walt so loved, and the story and characters continue to resonate to this day.”

Snow White is “widely considered one of Hollywood’s greatest early triumphs. After its original release, the film was recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with a special honorary Oscar – one large Oscar statuette accompanied by seven smaller ones – which was presented to Walt Disney by Shirley Temple. The film is the highest-ranked animated feature on the American Film Institute’s ‘100 Years…100 Movies’ list, and was inducted into the National Film Registry in the registry’s inaugural year, 1989.”

The restoration of the film was undertaken by the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, working closely with key artists from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

While Disney is hyping up this 4K restoration of Snow White, Disney is making a live-action remake of the film that doesn’t sound like it represents the story that Walt Disney wanted to tell. The star of the live-action Snow White movie, Rachel Ziegler, also doesn’t seem to have any respect for the original animated movie as she’s shared several thoughts on the film in the past that have been controversial to fans.

The live-action film won’t feature the delightful Seven Dwarfs and it also won’t feature the magic of true love’s kiss. In the reimagining, Snow White is a warrior and leader who won’t need saving by a Prince who is “stalking her.”

The description for the animated film reads: “The beautiful and kindhearted princess Snow White charms every creature in the kingdom except one — her jealous stepmother, the Queen. When the Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White is the fairest one of all, she must flee into the forest, where she befriends the lovable seven dwarfs — Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy and Dopey. But when the Queen tricks Snow White with an enchanted apple, only the magic of true love’s kiss can save her!”
