Disney's SNOW WHITE Will Have To Make Over $400 Million To Break Even

As Disney continues to have to deal with major PR issues due to Snow White star Rachel Zegler, Forbes has revealed that the budget for the film had ballooned to a massive $269.4 million by the end of 2023.

That’s not including the marketing costs, which could be between $100 and $200 million more. It’s explained that the film will likely have to take in well in excess of $400 million worldwide to break even. So, the pressure is on the movie to be a big box-office success.

That’s not going to be easy considering all of the bad press surrounding the film’s star, and the first trailer that was released did little to get audiences hyped. In fact, the trailer got over a million dislikes on YouTube.

An insider previously talked about the movie, saying: "Disney had to delay Snow White because they have spent so much money on it, and if it is a financial disaster at the box office, it might singlehandedly cripple future remakes and potential Snow White sequels that they have planned.”

The insider also said: "They also have to remove themselves from the bad taste in the mouths of online critics and want to instead deliver a great film and get to a point where they get it right. They realize that they were overthinking things and are now reigning it all in a little bit more."

Zegler received a lot of backlash when making the live-action film when she criticized the original Disney animated film, saying that director Marc Webb's take on the story will be a bit more enlightened as far as its female lead is concerned and she will be more of a leader type character.

The actress said the original movie features the prince basically stalking Snow White and called the whole thing "weird," while also noting that the entire focus is on Snow White's love story rather than her own personal development.

She said: “I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. We absolutely wrote a Snow White that ... she’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love; she’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.”

Zegler also recently had some heated things to say about Trump and those who voted for him after the election, but she has since apologized for those those comments.

She said: “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace,” and “there is a deep, deep sickness in this country,” as well as, “another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in.”

Her apology reads: “Hi everyone, I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on Instagram last week. I let my emotions get the best of me. Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse.

“This week has been emotional for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone has the right to their opinion, even when it differs from my own. I am committed to contributing positively towards a better tomorrow.”

This is a live-action musical reimagining of the classic 1937 film. The story follows a princess who is rescued by seven dwarf miners, Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy, who make Snow White part of their household after she’s exiled into a dangerous forest by her wicked queen.

The film also stars Gal Gadot, who is playing the Evil Queen, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, Martin Klebba as Grumpy, and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan.

Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) directs Snow White from a screenplay by Barbie director Greta Gerwig and playwright Erin Cressida Wilson.

Snow White is now set to be released in theaters on March 21, 2025. Good luck to Disney making their money back.
