Disney's SPACE MOUNTAIN Movie Moving Forward with Two New Writers
Several years ago it was announced that Disney Studios was developing a film based on the popular Disneyland attraction Space Mountain. Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold was originally hired to write the script.
There hasn’t been any update on the project since that first initial report, but the project is still in development, and two new writers have been hired to work on the script.
Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are now working on the script and they are best known for developing the script for Brad Bird’s 2011’s Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol movie, which was great! They also wrote the two CGI / live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Paramount Pictures, which sucked.
They more recently worked on Amazon’s spy series Citadel and were the showrunners on Netflix’s canceled adaptation of Cowboy Bebop.
Joining them on the team is Jonathan Eirich, who is behind Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which was met with mixed reviews. The original writer Joby Harold is also producing with Tory Tunnell.
Space Mountain is the classic indoor roller coaster attraction located in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park. It was introduced to the public in 1977, and it takes guests on a thrilling outer space-themed adventure. It’s one of my favorite rides at the park.
The ride has no story or characters, so the creative team can pretty much do whatever they want and build an original story behind it, which could be fun! The ride will act as the story’s inspiration.
There aren’t any plot details to share, but it will be interesting to see how this flick turns out.
