DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Writer Confirms That Marvel Does Have Plans For Namor The Sub-Mariner
For years, there has been talk of Marvel introducing Namor The Sub-Mariner into the MCU, and there were early rumors that it could have happened in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There definitely was an opportunity there to do it! Doctor Strange 2 spoilers ahead!
The Doctor Strange sequel introduced the MCU’s version of the Illuminati, which consisted of Professor X, Captain Carter, Captain Marvel, Mr. Fantastic, Black Bolt, and Mordo. Namor is a member of the group in the comics, but he was not included in the film.
Regardless, Marvel does have plans for Namor and they were confirmed by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron. He told Variety:
"[We] talked about him, because he's certainly an original member of the Illuminati. But I think Marvel has other plans for him in the MCU. And so he didn't make his way in this particular movie."
It’ll be interesting to see how Marvel does end up introducing the character. There have been rumors that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever might introduce the character. It’s been said that the story for the movie would include a conflict between Wakanda and Atlantis, but that has not been confirmed.
Namor and Atlantis have a long history with Wakanda and T’Challa in the comics. The two kingdoms are known for warring against each other. So, it would make sense if Namor made his big debut in the film. We’ll just have to wait and see!
