Dolph Lundgren on Reprising His He-Man Role: "An Older He-Man? I Don't Know"
Dolph Lundgren has made an indelible mark on cinema with the roles that he’s taken on in the movies over the years, a couple of his best-known roles include He-Man in the 1987 live-action Masters of the Universe movie and Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.
In recent years, Lundgren revisited his role as Drago in Creed II, where he appeared as the coach to his on-screen son. This return to a legacy role has sparked some curiosity among fans: Could Lundgren once again take up the mantle of He-Man?
In a conversation with CB about his new film Wanted Man, Lundgren addressed this question. His response came with a bit of lighthearted humor:
"[An] Older He-Man? I don't know. As long as... my costume can be a little more substantial. It was about the size of a stamp, in those days. I think I'd just have to add a few layers of costume."
While a return as He-Man might seem far-fetched, the site says that Lundgren seemed more open to revisiting another of his roles: The Punisher, whom he portrayed in the 1989 movie.
I actually think it would be kinda cool to see an old-man He-Man movie with Lundgren reprising his role. It’ll never happen, but it’s an intriguing idea, a grizzled old version of the character return to action for some crazy adventure. That would be fun to play with!
It could be titled, He-Man: The Last Power, we revisit Eternia where an aged He-Man, having hung up his Sword of Power decades ago, lives in seclusion. The kingdom is at peace, but under the surface, an ancient evil is stirring. Skeletor, thought to be vanquished, has returned, more powerful and cunning than ever. With the current generation of warriors unable to contain this evil threat, the kingdom’s only hope lies in its forgotten hero. Reluctantly, He-Man embarks on a final quest, to save Eternia to with a new generation of heroes. Battling not only Skeletor’s forces but also his own limitations of age, He-Man must rediscover the strength within and redefine what it means to be a Master of the Universe.
There is a new Masters of the Universe film project in development with directors Adam and Aaron Nee, with a script is being penned by a team including Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi), David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), and Matt Holloway (Uncharted, Iron Man). It’s also confirmed that Kyle Allen is still attached to star as He-Man.
What do you think about the possibly of an old-man He-Man movie?
